(Solved) - Opening old Word files in Windows 8

I recently started using Win 8. Some of my Word files show an altered icon and need to be associated, I guess, with a particular edition of Word. The first time this happened, I inadvertently clicked on the wrong button, and now I get a pitch to buy a new version of Office, which I'm not going to do, if I click on such a file in File Explorer. It's not all that serious since I can open any file directly from Word, but it's just another annoyance from Microsoft. Any solutions? Thanks.

Did you try to right click the file, choose properties, and then on the point that says "Open With", press change and then choose the edition of Microsoft Office you have...?

I thought I did, but I'll try again. Thanks. (Later) Yup, it just worked. In this case, it was a matter of choosing to open it with Word rather than Microsoft Office. Thanks again.
