I have a Nvidia graphics card nvidia GeForce 6150 LE graphics card.I keep getting updates from windows and HP to update my driver. When I do the start up is fine, but when I wake from sleep all I get is a blue screen.I have a desktop with windows vista home premium. My windows expierience score goes from 3.0 to 2.3 after downloading.I have to go to system restore to fix the problem. Is there something wrong with my computer that the update messes it up?I just restored my computer and everything works fine.

You can disable that particular update from appearing again in Windows Update. nVidia drivers and Vista have a loathe/hate relationship and I speak from experience. If the old one works fine, continue to use it.

(BTW, you may be able to just rollback the old driver from Device Manager without going through System Restore.)

OK. I'll spare you the stories of my headaches I had until SP1 sorted them out. Many new updates have come out for my card (7900GS) but no bleepin' way I'll install them.

hurtingbad,

You are running a Nvidia GeForce 6000 series video card. I believe (and please don't quote me) Nvidia combined drivers above 81.98 require certain components of Net Frame Work and will fail installation if Frame Work is not installed first. This may be a cause of your problems.

(Suggest, You Follow Scott's Instructions Above. He is Right on Point.)

If you have an old good Nvidia 6000 series card driver which works well, use it. There is really nothing to be gained performances wise by changing video drivers for your existing 6000 series card.

There is much history concerning Nvidia Combined Drivers which I'm sure you don't care to hear about (LOL).

hurtingbad,

Open the MSConfig file and click on the (Startup Tab).

EDIT:
Copy and paste the below sentence in the start / run box.
------------------------------------------------------
C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe
------------------------------------------------------
Click OK
Write down a list of the Startup Items (exactly) as you see them.
Post the list of items back here.

hurtingbad,

NO problem.

(UNCHECK) THE BOX BESIDE (HPWUSCHDA) ITEM IN START-UP TAB.

REBOOT.

The link below will give you some info about the HP update process which you just stopped.

http://www.file.net/process/hpwuschd.exe.html

It is a bit more complicated because there is a SERVICE connected with this but let's see what happens in the future.

You can right click on the update from Windows Update and mark it hidden.
It can always be restored later but don't know why you'd want to :)
