Hello,
I’m looking to take a leap and build my own computer for the first time using top components. Any advice, tips, criticisms would be appreciated.
I need to know if the list below will work together. Am I missing anything? Have I chosen something that is really not needed?
I am a photographer and deal with mass amounts of photos, videos, music etc. I also want to play games occasionally, or watch a DVD.
I haven't decided on what kind of monitor yet or a mouse or keyboard. For a monitor I will need one that accurate reflects photographs for editing. I am pretty close to budget. I'll spend around 2400 or so. I am starting from scratch, bringing no parts from other places. All new.

How does the following combination stack up? Thank you in advance for any help to the above questions and your time.

thinkharris,

Need ALL the parts put into format like the below so we can check and discuss as we can't see your shopping cart.

MOTHERBOARD $279.99
ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6813131818

However I can tell you from your above posting that you don't need water cooling.
Extreme O/Cing with a 22NM Die size CPU is limited by the electrical characteristics of such small processors.
Most any Good Air Cooler will do fine.

1. Don't need extra Sata Cable ?
Need HDMI Cable

2. Video Card is PCIe 2.0
Should be PCIe 3.0

3. PSU is non standard dimension plus over kill if not going to SLI ?

4. Memory can be cut to 16 GB 1 kit of (2x8)

5. HD has 32MB Cache
Needs to have 64MB Cache

6. Optical DVD is Blu Ray read only I think?
Should be Read / Write

7. SDD needs to be Sata III
Maybe Intel 520 240GB

8. No Wrist strap needed.

9. Need good cooler.

What do you think ??

This is exactly the kind of feedback I need. Thank you. I will update the list and resubmit if that's ok for additional feedback. Advice on a PSU?

For one Video Card, I suggest this modular PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6817139010

I use this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6817139006
(BECAUSE I don't mind none modular or case clutter, I have 4pin to Sata extra connectors and the specs are just as good as higher price modular PSUs)

Have in the past always used Antec TruePower New Series but can't find'um on newegg anymore.

@ronniesonora,

You interrupted my posting.

The OP's parts list had to be amended before my time out.
Some Items needed to be changed.

@thinkharris,

I changed items in my above posting for you.

Now we need to discuss a Video Card that won't break the bank. :) :)

Raphoenix ~ Yes, A video card that will do a spectacular job given the following needs: dvds, a game or two, mainly for photo and video editing, I can always add another video card later with the current motherboard right?

Ronniesonora ~ thank you for the look over

thinkharris,

Everything looks good EXCEPT for storage HDD.

You chose a 5900 RPM 2T.

Suggest strongly that you use (2) 7200 RPM 1T HDDs for safety of storage back ups and speed.
If you put everything on one large HDD and it fails, you will be SOL plus 5900 RPM HDD is non-standard. :( :(

Still working on the Video Card.

Can you give me some idea of your budget for the Video Card ????

Thanks,

Rick P.

Raphoenix,
Thank you again for your continued help. I swapped out the HDD for two 1T hard drives.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6822148868
I'm pretty much at budget and a little over right now at 2300. That price includes the $500 graphics card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/.....6814130768
Yet I haven't chosen a monitor, mouse or keyboard yet. The monitor will need to be 24-30 inches and generate as accurate of color as possible for photograph editing. I don't know a lot about graphics cards so I'm learning. I suppose going down to $300 for the graphics card would be the smart thing to do. Does the current mobo chosen allow for an additional video card to be added at a later time?
Thank you..

Chris
