No sound on Vista.
(10 posts)ve reinstalled Realtec, though I didn't ininatll that first, to whoch I will try with this method first. When I right clicked on the speakers symbol, playback deviceson the task bar, selected Speakers there was a red tick on it and Test was greyed out. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks guys...Garry
P.S. What Realtek drivers should I use? The Reltec website is confusing. I'm using ASUS P5N-D. I have the cd to this mobo.
Garry, the Asus P5N-D has a Realtek ALC883 HD Audio chip (they call it a codec). The latest Realtek HD Audio driver supports this chip and many others. The drivers can be found here at Realtek's website, where you have to select "accept" then click the Next button.
As of now, the latest version is R2.31 released on 8/24/2009. When uninstalling the old drivers, look in Programs and Features for a Realtek entry. In mine, it looks like this:
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5898 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 8/ 8/ 2009
Okay guys, i have tried all the suggestions abvr and to no avail. ScottW pointed me to the correct drv. And it did install, but no still sound. If I used the ASUS mobo cd, would the possible work? I don't knoe the reprocussions of this, but if there is a downfall to installing all of the ASUS software but any sugestions would be greatly apreciated>>THANKS AS ALWAYS>GARY MY KEY BOARD IT ACTING WEIRD< SORY FOR THE ENDING
I realize that the last post for this topic was over a month ago, but thought I would post this from what I found after downloading the realtek driver updates for myself so hopefully it may be helpful for some others.
Due to an engineering error, the HD Audio bus driver that shipped in Server 2003 SP1 and Windows XP x64 Edition
contains what is called ¡§time bomb¡¨ functionality that prevents the use of the binary after a certain date.
That date was August 1st 2005 and users may find their audio device stop working after that date.
If the following conditions are true, the computer Intel High Definition audio functionality unexpectedly
quits working:¡E The computer is running either Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
or Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
¡E The computer has an Intel High Definition audio device.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a problem in the Intel High Definition audio driver that
is included with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
The Download Center URLs will be as follows:
WS03
http://www.microsoft.com/downl.....laylang=en
WS03 x64
http://www.microsoft.com/downl.....laylang=en
WinXP x64
http://www.microsoft.com/downl.....laylang=en
The reason this happened has been addressed for future OS releases.
