LH: Followed your second link (the first was an expensive antenna system that is what I probably need but can't afford) and landed on a post about an N-Gage QD, which caused me to scratch my head trying to figure out what that had to do with reception in the Dragon's Lair. I'm sure you know, but I don't. Sorry.

As for the little metal aerials, most of the folks I've talked to about them (the jerks that upgraded my phone - even though they can't think of any way to solve the problem either; the idiots at Radio Shack; the nerds at Best Buy; and about a hundred others) say they aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell. I take that to mean that they don't do what they're said to do. Good idea, if they worked; otherwise, just tossing more $$ down the toilet.

baldeguy56: I totally agree . . . a cell phone is worthless with lousy reception. As far as ProstheticHead's suggestions, I can only reiterate my lack of ability when it comes to doing any of the things he took the time to find and list for me. I'm such an ingrate! I can't believe you all are putting so much time into this. Just proves that you are ALL angels, and I'm putting each of you on my Speaking List! And I'll go looking for the User's Guide, too! Uh, actually I found it a couple of days ago . . . didn't see anything that looked promising, but then again . . .

So, once again, I leave you with my most sincere gratitude and filled with the knowledge that people like you are the very BEST!

Brighter blessings,

brookela

I would have been wary of those little metal aerials myself, if it were not for the fact that that one is made by Nokia.

Well, ya know, LH, a little snooping around on the 'net makes me think that the only place one could get that Nokia little metal aerial is in the UK or India. The URL you sent me to showed the pricing in pounds, and other cites mentioned that the Nokia XpressMusic was available in India. There is neither antenna nor aerial listed on the Nokia website (http://www.nokiausa.com/find-products/accessories). Now I'm really confused.

Thanks again for going the extra mile. I am certain one of you wizards will find just the thing I need to get me out of this silly coil.

brookela. Can you posts the links to the sites in India. It could be a copyright scam issue.

LH,

I went back and entered Nokia Generation 4 Aerials in Google, looking for the sites I thought I'd seen in India. I must have been mistaken, since I didn't find any this time. However, it is interesting that there is no such thing as a "Nokia Generation 4 Aerial" on Nokia's website. Sorry for giving misinformation; I try not to do that, but I also forget to write down URLs when I see something that I might later cite. Bad brookela!

On another note (or actually the original note, that of not being able to get bars in the Dragon's Lair): I was told that T-Mobile provides - but does not actually tell customers - 500 monthly forwarding minutes, and that I can program my Nokia 5310 to forward incoming calls to my internet number when I'm in the Lair and receive calls that way. Believe it or not, it works! Yeah, I have to (oops! I think I forgot again) remember to go through the many steps to receive calls on my Nokia when I'm above ground, and vice versa, but the effect is good. I can - sort of - use my Nokia to receive incoming calls on my internet phone. After such calls use up my paid-for 600 minutes a month, they'll start dealing out the forwarding minutes.

I hope that makes sense, but perhaps knowing that my problem is solved will overcome any confusion caused by this old broad in explaining the whys and wherefores thereof.

Again, many many bright blessings to each of you who input ideas toward the solution of my silly coil. I'll be speaking to the Universe about your many kindnesses for as many years as I have left.

Mmmmmmwwwwwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhh! (that's for those who are old enough to remember Dinah Shore!)

I must admit. I couldn't find it on Nokia sites either. Made me suspicious.
Nice to hear you have some sort of solution tho'. Not perfect, but better than nothing :)
Dinah Shore ? Come on. I was born in 1956. And in England :)

LH: Thanks for everything you did to help me through this; you're right . . . not perfect but better than nothing. As for Dinah Shore . . . sorry you missed her; she was really great! Being young isn't all it's cracked up to be, methinks.

ProstheticHead: And for your amazing help, what can I say but "thanks" . . . so little to transmit so much. And many thanks for your good wishes - I hope you weren't deriding it by typing (LOL), on account of I think it's a lovely thing to say! On the other hand, I'm a weird old broad.

Many bright blessings again to everyone who worked so hard to help me with this.

. . . over and out, but I won't forget you if I get in another corner that I can't back out of.

brookela, I'm very pleased that you are on your way to finding a solution to your problem. All these people are pleased to help, that's what they do and that is their joy, especially with such a graceful person as youself. And please do me one favor, don't put yourself in such catogories as you have in your past posts, you are a friendly and intelligent lady. And that is no doubt. Not much here to help you with at resolving your problem , but you need the recognition you deserve. I would be glad to have you over to my house for a well cooked dinner and I don't offer many people in my home. Love your sense of humour also. Wishing you only the best...Garry
