no keyboard function and computer is password prtected
(6 posts)So, is there a PS/2 connector to try? Some keyboards come with a USB-to-PS/2 adapter so they can support both connectors.
I have seen where the BIOS settings for legacy USB support is turned off, the system won't recognize the keyboard at BIOS time. However, it should still work when the OS boots.
Looks like you may have to reset the BIOS to default, so the password will not be active,if you have exhausted every other possibility.
Take off the side panel and on the mobo you will see a small round CMOS battery.
You can either remove it (and replace,of course),or short the pins on either side-to achieve this.
It is just possible the battery may be flat -for example if the correct time and date isnt being displayed , this is likely.
The reason to get into the BIOS is to check whether the USB keyboard is enabled-under the heading "integrated peripherals" or similar.
If not enabled,will never work.
BIOS settings of this type shouldn't change for no reason, but everything is possible with computers.
Also check the USB controllers in Devices Manager to make sure they are correctly working
Sometimes just plugging into a different USB port to reset the pins may work.
Presumably the cable is OK.
