Hey guys! I'm new to Vista as I just bought a new laptop, and I have a question...

I use wordpad quite a bit for quick notes and various things...when I'm done using a file I want to delete it...HOWEVER, there is no option to delete the file anywhere in the file menu, or ANYWHERE for that matter...I tried notepad and got the same...I figured it was something in Vista as XP didn't do this...sooooo, how can you delete a file that you are viewing, without having to save it first and then go find it with explorer and deleting it there???

Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

Right. Open the document in Wordpad. Open a new window. Do what you have to do, then select all and copy and paste it into the new window. The close the old one and delete the file. Hope this helps.

Hey Mike, thanks for the response! But I'm confused...why do I have to open up a new window and copy and paste anything? I don't want the information anymore...

Let me explain another way...let's say I have a cut and past copy of an online receipt that I want to keep till the transaction is over. I past it into wordpad and name it "receipt1".

10 days later I receive my goods and all is well, so I open up the "receipt1" document to make sure I don't need anything out of it...now i want to delete the file. I used to go to FILE>DELETE...but now it's gone...now the only way I can find to delete the file I'm viewing is to close it, then go find "windows explorer" then go find where it stored it and delete it there...that's frustrating. Expecially since I don't store everything in "my documents"...some of my business docs get stored in a partition to keep it safe. Does that description change anything???

I just tried to do this in "PAINT" and it doesn't work there either...seems you can't delete a file in ANY of Vistas programs...i.e. Paint, wodpad, notepad, windows movie maker...etc.etc.

Have you tried closing the documents first? (No Offence)

No bother. It is pretty new, and most of the idea is to make it more user friendly, but sometimes the change is too much. :D

I'll have to boot back into xp to check this out.. but Mike, I think you're missing his point entirely. Brian wants to delete the file using the program he's viewing it with, via the 'File' menu in that program. He wants to avoid using explorer entirely.

Honestly, I don't know if there's a fix for this. All I can say is just leave open the folder you opened your file from, and deleting it from explorer will take one extra click.

BrianJ - You can add Windows Mail to your list. I received an E-Mail and wanted to forward it to someone else - couldn't delete any part of it and couldn't forward it either.
