Yeah.It is detachable, and can be bolted to several places on the bike. And I know he has had to use it at least one time in anger.

I'm still trying to picture what a winch on a bicycle would be used for, especially in anger (scratches head).

OOPS! My bad (head slap). Yeah, a winch on a motorcycle would make sense, especially a large heavy one loaded down like that one. 'Twould be useful if stuck in mud or have get it out of a ditch after a near encounter with an idiot cager.

The "especially in anger part" is still piquing my curiosity.

"In anger", refers to an incident when he was forced off road, into a deep ditch.
Maybe an English expression that you didn't know.

Curious that it referred to a scenario I had postulated. I know I would be a wee bit angry if someone forced me off the road.

"In anger" actually meant the use of the winch on that occasion. Not getting forced off the road.
