New Router Firmware

I am thinking of installing new firmware for my Speedtouch Wireless router as i have been loosing connection recently i downloaded the new firmware which comes as a wizard but it recommends that i resett my static IP address with one they give me i haven't a clue how to do this can anybody help , i am on Vista

Just one caveat -- if that router was provided to you by your ISP, you should check with them before upgrading the firmware.

Yes it was provided by my ISP. So you think that should be my first option , ok i will give that a try thank's for the advice

@frigiliana, I second ScottW´s opinion. Nearly everything here in Germany is DSL/VOIP and the most providers that offer these services also offer different routers. These routers can be set up in many different ways, to include other providers, but will not necessarily work if you have a firmware upgrade not supported by your provider!!

I once had the pleasure of finding this out myself, I had an AVM Fritzbox 7170SL, considered to be one of the best routers ever here in Germany. After upgrading the firmware from AVM´s homepage I could not connect to my ISP afterwards!!

That's confirmed it .I live in Spain and my Internet is provided by Orange Es unfortunately my Spanish isn't up to the technicality of explaining the problem so will have to call on a friend , thank' for your advice

frigiliana. Then definitely do not mess about with it. You will have major problems if you do.
