New laptop

Could someone give me advice about a laptop to buy i am looking for one with 2g ram 160 harddrive its for download music storing photos watching videos etc price range £350

Well I see you live in Ireland. Don't you have a mate that works for Dell ? :)
Seriously tho, I do like Dells. But are you asking for choice between different makes ?

Welcome to The HTG Forums.
Just a suggestion for (ANY) Laptop you choose.
1. Force the OEM Retailer to give you a COMPLETE GENUINE COPY of the MS O/S on a CD/DVD.
(NOT Just a Restore Copy)
2. Force the OEM Retailer to provide you with a copy of (ALL) Machine Drivers including the Chipset and Video Driver on a CD.
3. Don't listen to the sales pitch; "It's all in the laptop".
4. Also, don't bother to ask why; just follow my suggestion because one day you will understand. :) :) :)

I know what you are talking about the laptop i have now crashed couple of weeks ago i learn the hard way to fix it but got it going

There are cheaper well known brands, and even cheaper dubious ones, but this would be my preference.

LH, nah no videos on them 10". too small. just to do consulting work like router troubleshooting. :-)

toddr, coz most people when they buy new laptop that comes with Vista they like to downgrade to XP for different reasons. there are several laptop manufacturers that will leave out in the cold if you ask them how to install XP over Vista.

toddr, Vista does not have but there are emulation softwares out there to do the job like virtualbox, and vmware to name a few.

toddr, yes Vista does have wizard to do that. But, sometimes it's hat is a bit skewiff, and it doesn't work.

I know i try it had a program on cd but it only runs on xp tried the wizard but no good i am on vista now tried the get driver update to run it cant find it
