Make an image of your system from the original drive and restore that image on the new drive. Then you have everything as it was.

Rick, he never said it was dead. He only replaced it.

Ya, the computer ships with a 320GB HD so I just assumed the component went bad.

May be OP will come back and tell us.

It's really appalling how many of our responses are for getting more information from the OPs.

They must think we can see their computers magically over time and distance. (LOL)

Yeah, it's really hot here. It's supposed to get up to a blistering 60° today!

@ Rick. Omigosh! How did you do that? I even have my webcam taped over.

This is a first poster. He'll probably not come back - as 80% of the first posters. I hate to waste my time as on this one (last post): http://www.howtogeek.com/forum.....?replies=9 Took me half an hour to put it together.

yeah the OP missed out but other people will read your replies so it really is not time wasted. Sometimes the best help we give is when we don't know we are doing it.

@ presence1960, after over 17.000 posts I know the pattern of those posters. And since this OP clobbered a completely unrelated post, chances are slim that it will help anybody else.

And the lady for whom I spent a lot of time uploading materials and a long post left 21 hours ago. You are lucky, you only post one-liners.

Don't sell yourself short whs. You never know who is going to have the same issue and read that post. Or if like me, I really like your video tutorials I have seen and have bookmarked them for reference. Like I said you never know who you are going to help so keep posting.
