NEED XP PRO ON VISTA 64-BIT MACHINE

I bought my daughter for video editing use at college a HP Vista Ultimate 64-bit laptop a month ago. Now I find out that Avid software won't support Vista. So .... I have some choices. What do you recommend, and how to do it?
1) Erase the whole hard drive and do a fresh XP Pro install, and reinstall all programs. So I've turned it into a XP Pro machine. CAN I DO THIS? AND, WILL THE FACT THAT IT WAS VISTA ULT 64-BIT INTERFERE (I need 32-bit Xp Pro to run Avid)
2) Install both OS's. DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS... AND, VISTA ULT 64-BIT AND XP PRO 32-BIT CAN THEY CO-EXIST ON SAME MACHINE?
3) Forget it and buy her a new dedicated Xp Pro 32-bit machine.

If you have the means... I would choose option 3! hahaha ... but I am not a fan of dual boot systems at all. For dual boot systems check out The Geeks tutorials on dual booting.

4) Visit on Homecoming Weekend and bring a spare hard drive with the XP install disk. Find drivers as MysticGeek suggests. Voila. A cheap alternative.

(we love dual boots here)
