I need the means to swap files between three computers.

Two are running Win7 64 bit the third is on XP, all are on a home wireless network.

What are some of the best programs/apps to do this? Prefer free but a few bucks would work.

I don’t need remote control but would not rule that out.

Thanks, sixcard

Use Windows Explorer or any other file manager (I use Explorer++)... NETWORK will show the other computers and all you need do is DRAG and DROP files after expanding the network and the computers on it. One thing, one each computer you MUST share the drives/folders you want to exchange files with.

Of course, one can use the COMMAND PROMPT to do the same with NET USE command and assigning a drive letter to the remote computer's share. Same results, but more work.

Thanks for reply Irv.

Are you referring to Home Group? I have been working on that but I am prompted for my Home Group password. Seems like I may have tinkered with that program the past and cannot remember the password. Some writings say it is the router's password but that does not work. I'm stalled until I get that ironed out.

It looks like Home Group is what I want ... does it work both ways? i.e. can either of the two puters access the other to swap files?

On the Windows 7 computers, go to Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing setting, turn off password protected sharing.

You DO not need HOME GROUP. I'm running 2 W8 computers connected together without it. Reason is because there is are 2 XP machine also in the network. Originally when the network was created all 4 computers were XP, and 2 were upgraded (or replaced) to W7 and then W8. We've stayed on the 'workgroup' concept.

Here are some links to review :

When Home Group is set up you get a P/W to use on another computer. I think you can retrieve that on the one it was created on via the Network Sharing Center. However, that doesn't work for XP.

For Home Group, here is more INFO but as I said, it doesn't work with XP.

If nothing else works, use a USB stick. That is cheap and simple.

Dropbox also works well and can be accessed outside the network and via mobile devices.
