My laptop hard drive, for months, has been emitting a high pitched noise (like a lower frequency mosquito noise). It hasn't died or anything but does seem a little slow to me (5,400 rpm hdd, takes couple minutes to boot into nearly fresh windows install). The noise can be heard if I put my ear near where my hard drive is while its running and when it works harder or while it's booting up it tends to get louder and I can hear it sitting at my desk. I'm only curious as to what it could be since I haven't found any related issues from googling it. This isn't a problem or anything, more of a curiousity. Has anyone here heard similar things with their hard drives?

I'm also not worried if it ever dies since I have my data backed up in multiple places.

-Edit: is off topic the correct place for this?

Be sure it is the HD.

It could be a Fan or the PSU.
