The past few weeks I have been having a weird problem. I'll be typing along as usual, and suddenly the pointer will jump, sort of like this. (it actually happened while writing this).

actual: The how to geek................and so forth, but then suddenly:
forhowtogeek.lhe help me fix my problem........

sometimes (too many times) I won't even notice it until I've messed up a whole paragraph. Its like all of the sudden I'm typing in the middle of a previous sentence. Any idea of what it is?

I have a dell laptop, running it on its power cord to the wall.
2 partitions.
XP Pro (some time)
windows 7 most of the time.
I recently had to install sound and ethernet and modem drivers for the xp side (before I reinstalled everything on the same reformatted hd. .. They both work ok, except for this stupid problem. Any ideas?

If your laptop has the option to turn off the touch/mouse pad then try turning it off and check if the mouse jumps around the desktop or not.

Thank you. I'm using a usb port mouse. But that might be the problem, becuase just now, i touched it and the pointer started moving around in circles. You might have the answer. I'll let you know in a minute. Thanks Santo

That appears to be the problem. I'm using it on a small table in front of my couch and so I'm looking down and I wear glasses so I hold my head back while looking down and my wrists hang over the keyboard with my elbows down. Great posture, huh? Anyhow, my hands to constantly touch that finger mouse pad. All I have to do is figure out how to disable it. Santo, thanks alot. I was afraid it was a registry problem. Have a fantastic week! Clif

Control Panel > Mouse. Do you have the option to disable it there ?
If not. go to to the Dell support site, and download the Touchpad driver.
