All of a sudden, the left shift key does not respond. When I hold it down and want to type e.g. I ot R. it types nothing - with other characters, it works ok though. It also works ok with the right shift key, with the Caps Lock and the on-screen keyboard. It's just the left shift key that is erratic. Anybody have an idea how to fix that?
There were various solutions on the web (like: hold left and right shift keys down for a few seconds), but none worked.

Give a very quick blast of air under the key cap.

I don't think that it is a mechanical problem. Why would it work on most keys but not on a few.

Weird. Something to do with keyboard layout perhaps?

Well, fact is that it has worked for years. All of a sudden this afternoon it started to become erraric. And it only letters of the first letter row that are effected. The letters QWEUOP do not capitalize and the letters R and I cannot be typed at all when the left shift key is pressed - it just leaves a blank space. With the right shift key everything works. But I am not used to that with my 2 finger typing style.

Thanks Shkumbin. I think my problem is the keyboard after all. Just tried another keyboard and that works OK. But I do not like this keyboard. The one that malfunctions they don`t make any more. So I am really stuck. I have only 1 spare - and that is in the US.

This is a desktop anyhow. My defunct keyboard is the same as this: http://www.fentek-ind.com/kbmrfotb45ub.htm Fortunately they still seem to be available in the US. I`ll order a couple next week.

If you open up the keyboard, check the tracks for any abnormalities, and there is also a small circuit board at the back that can be easily changed if that is the problem.
