Ive tried knocking off all of the unwanted stuff that we collect through time but this laptop is really slow. It has a 1024mb memory and is an intel Celeron dual core T1500 1.86 GHz processor.
I'm not a buff so in layman's language please

Download, Install and Run CCleaner. Cleaner Tab, Registry Tab (Fix all), and in Tools->Startup disable all but your antivirus and firewall.

Download, Install, update and Run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware deleting all they find.

moirabunn hi and welcome to HTG.

The first thing to note is the ram, 1gb, which is minimal for Vista.

You need to get the RAM upgraded, if you are running Vista 32 bit then the max RAM would be 2x sticks of 2gb (around 3.5gb usable in 32bit)

From here; http://www.crucial.com/uk/ the Crucial tool will tell you what your machine can handle but you don't have to buy from them.
