MY DVD DRIVE THINKS IT'S A BD-ROM DRIVE AND WON'T PLAY CD's

So I've had this laptop for quite sometime and it is running the Windows Vista Operating System, and it no longer will recognize my CD's when I try to run them. I didn't always have this problem, but I'm guessing it's a software issue with something else I have installed. How can I find out what is creating the interference?

Since you have had it for awhile the Lens may need cleaned.

Try Microsoft Fixit. This will help to resolve any registry issue, which might have caused by certain applications. If it does not then check for the DVD drive "Driver" status in Device Manager.
