I have a problem, that my windows movie maker 2.6 apparently can not open mp4 files. On Windows Live Movie Maker, the program even crashes when I open an mp4 file. What can I do to get my MM 2.6 to recognize the MP4 formats?

I have a quad core computer with 3 Gb RAM running windows 7.

Thanks in advance!

converting them over to a format that it can handle will do the trick.
check out this guide and do a quick search for the app to give it a try - let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the guide only ofered a maxium 5 minute conversion in what appears to be a trial version. So this didn't help much. I was looking for a patch, add-on or codec update for 2.6 so it can accept mp4's. Have you got any idea on this?

A specific codec is OK, just not a pack.

convert to WMV with Format Factory

uninstall all the Windows Live junk with Revo Uninstaller

then follow this guide to install WMM from Vista WMM 6.0
