Microsoft 4000 wireless mouse

I just bought the Microsoft wireless 4000 mouse and am having some problems with it, the curser seems to float anywhere it wants to and at times I have a very hard time getting it to go where I want it to go, it just seems to go wherever it wants to. Has anyone else have this problem?
I am using it on a Dell 8500 desktop with win 7

Batteries fresh? Tried it on a plain white paper? If so return it while you can.

I changed USB ports and it seems to wok ok now?????
