hello,
on my laptop i had vista, but i like xp more
so i inserted the xp cd, made new partition(had free space) and just did a clean install of xp on it, and so xp worked

i tried recovering my files, working in xp, i noticed they are secured, so i deceided to go back to vista, so i just deleted the partition
now however vista refuses to boot anymore
i have the admin password so i wonder if just reinstalling vista will work?
before i do more damage then i can repair, i have vista ultimate and the laptop had vista home edition
can i reinstall with the ultimate to repair the home edition?

Hi tommes, welcome to HTG. Could explain exactly what you have done please. This is the way I have read your post:

Laptop came with Vista preinstalled (C: partition), you made a new partition (D:) to install XP. You have files on (C: Vista) but could not access them from XP (D:). So you decided to use (C: Vista) again and deleted (or formatted?) the D: XP partition.

Now your laptop won´t boot up anymore, do you get an error screen? If so what does it say? I am thinking that your boot manager (MBR) was saved in the XP partition and on deleting (formatting?) it you have also killed the MBR. Do you have data that needs saving? Matt
