When I start my computer it loads as usual but when it finally gets to my desktop a message comes up from the command prompt:

c:/windows/system32/cmd.exe

ERROR: Access denied

no programs are started to make this prompt appear, is it dangerous for my computer?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There's got to be something running at startup that is causing this error. Check your startup items in the start menu, and check the registry entries for the startup items.

You can also use msconfig to take a look at startup items.

There's also a small utility program called AutoRuns that will list what programs run during bootup or login. It searches the startup folder and registry keys.
