I bought the following usb drive a couple of months ago, and it has never worked properly
It constantly crashes my laptop, sometimes even causing it to shut down, and if it even lets me view its contents, after a while it will crash again. Transfer times are ridiculously slow
BUT it works on my friend's XP comp - om running home premium
Any ideas?

its really annoying because I really need it working!

And format it in NTFS (probably FAT32 by default).

You should be able to do it in My Computer, select the drive, right click, Format, NTFS.

If you right click on it and select "Format" it will give you the NTFS option

Aleeve, try this. Go to Device Manager, uninstall the device, then restart Windows and allow it do be discovered again. It might work, and it can't hurt to try.

By default, Vista works in NTFS file format. And whilst it can use Fat32, it has to go through more processes to do so. Thus increasing the risk of problems.
Open Help and Support. Paste in "Comparing NTFS and FAT file systems" for more general info

Will changing my USB stick from FAT32 to NTFS change anything on the memory?
or will it just change the format?

What do you mean by, "change anything on the memory?"

When you format a USB flash drive, all of the data on it will be erased. The command line "convert" program can be used to change a FAT32 partition to NTFS without erasing the data, but this will only work on hard drive partitions. I don't think it will work for a flash drive.

I'm not going to change my flash drive to NTFS because I'm using it to copy files for use on my Xbox 360 which can only read FAT32 from external USB devices.

While surfing around and reading about USB flash drives, I found this interesting site:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbstick_e.html

This guy seems to know a lot about USB flash drives, has written several utilities, and has troubleshooting and tips&tricks. It turns out that you can use convert.exe to change a flash drive from FAT32 to NTFS without formatting, but see Uwe's advice about the cluster size.

Aleeve, that site may be able to help you if other things you try don't work. He also mentions an interesting tool called devcon.exe which is built-in to Vista. At least, it is on my 32-bit Vista HP w/ SP1
