Can someone explain this to me?
Dell Vostro 200 desktop with XP Home, I installed an Atech XM-4U card reader into the vacant 3.5" front slot. This card also features an additional USB 2.0 port, which works just fine, the card reader section, however does not. It will not recognize any type of media card at all.
Interface is via the MOBO's flex bay connector, according to Atech support I will need to install a USB card into a PCI-E slot on the MOBO, then in turn connect the media card reader into a USB type A port on this card, this is because of 'propietary rights' that Dell imposes to prevent just any generic devices from functioning, according to Atech support.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to what exact card I need?
The connection to the media reader is not like any USB connector I have seen, it is a 10 pin device plastic connector.
Thanks !

I have seen that "odd" 10 pin connector before on a card reader, and it plugs into the 1394 connector on the M/B (odd, I know, for a usb device, but it worked)
