I have seen that recently on another system - and the hard drive failed soon after. If it's under warrenty, have them send you a new one. You can try to run CHKDSK or the H/W diagnostics in the BIOS.

i feel like crying
my laptop suddenly froze, made some really nasty clicking sounds and turned off, now showing the hard drive failure imminent screen
im not sure if system recovery is working now either
HELP

When I try system recovery it is saying D2D32 type mismatch
so that wont work either

yes
I AM AT ABSOLUTE WIT'S END
I had to do system recovery before when it did not boot up and did a constant loop of startup repair
I know I need to ring Acer, but that will only be my last resort
Besides, they are closed at the moment

Possible, but not tonight. It needs to rest before you attack it.

yes - only half a year old!
What i shall do - (in best scenario)
Find a way of getting data of d drive ( i hope)
somehow get my money back for an appalling laptop that has failed TWICE
and then get you guys to find me a really good laptop that works!

but were you going to talk me through saving d drive?
i think ill wait until i have rung acer if thats ok, as opening it up might void warranty

When you phone Acer, ask for Chris or Dave in the Tec dept.
