basically i have the windows 7 installation files on a partition. i would like to make that partition bootable in-case something goes wrong with my original os. i can just install a clean OS right away. i know that the setup.exe will take over when it the partition is selected to boot. i also know that it has to deal with bcdedit, but that's where my knowledge stops.

Your best bet is to make an image - either to that partition, or better even to another internal or external disk (in case the disk with the C partition fails). Then you can always recover in 20 minutes (you need to burn the recovery CD - best if you download the .iso from my site)

Here are instructions for the imaging program: http://www.sevenforums.com/tut.....html?ltr=I
