Lost reliability monitor
(34 posts)cloche, hello. What method are you using to launch the Performance and Reliability Monitor?
The Performance Monitor updates status in real time, but the Reliability Monitor only updates once a day. If the reliability data was reset somehow, it could be a day before any new status shows up.
Thank you Scott
I go into control panel, performance, then reliability. When it first happened the monitor went back to 2003, with a new score of ten, I got a tip about resetting RAC, and the date went all together, with a notice that nothing would appear, as you say, for 24 hoours. that was last week and nothing has appeared. cheers
Did you do the RAC reset? There should be a Task Scheduler entry for RACAgent.exe to run every hour. See if you can run the command from that Task at an elevated command prompt.
Have you every disabled UAC? Finally, check the services related to error logging and reporting, such as WerSvc, WecSvc, and such.
When I went to enable RAC it was already enabled and is set to run at start and every hour. I'm afraid I dont understand your commentsabout check services. I have never knowingly disabled UAC, but the last time i tried a command, it said i did not have permission, and I cant remember how to reenable that. I hope you like a challenge as you can see I am relatively new to this
You are doing fine. Most folks wouldn't know where to find the RAC scheduled task. For one thing, it's a hidden task and the default view is not to show them. Anyway, when you are in the Task Scheduler looking at the RACAgent task, click on the History tab. Has it been running successfully every hour since power on?
If there is no history, you can run the task manually. Right-click on it and select "Run", then check the history for the results. On my system, it is set to run under the LOCAL SERVICE user account, so your user permission is not required.
For the Services, I was a little vague on that because I don't know which services, if any, are required for reliability monitoring. Checking the status of the RACAgent task will tell you what you need to know. If there is a dependency on a service that is not running, it should say so in an error message.
So your RACAgent is running successfully? All of these 1437 events are information, not errors?
I think that the next thing for you to try is a RAC Reset as described in this article. You said above, "...I got a tip about resetting RAC". What was that tip? Hopefully, it's the same or similar to what is in this article, but if it's different that might be helpful.
On my Task Scheduler RACAgent, all of the settings are greyed out as well. Probably because the task is owned by Local Service.
Therewas only State data in there, which I have deleted. I originally deleted both, but nothing happened, I reinstated State Data as I thought I had made a mistake, But I have removed it now. I assume we have to wait until The computer has been running for 24 hours before we know if it is working. I have to go to a bowls match now, back at 9. I think the events on show are info but I cant scroll down to see anymore. cheers
Scott am I right in thinking I have to wait for the computer to be RUNNING For 24 hrs,as thereare two ways of reading the noticeIt is now over 24 hrs since I did your reset and nothing has appeared, but of course the comp has not been actally running during this time. Thank you
I don't know that you have lost it forever. You just haven't found someone in me who can fix it. :-)
I found this thread that talks about the Services that need to be running. The ones that I guessed at, above, were not correct but I was right in thinking that there were some Services involved. I also found this book excerpt which probably doesn't hold the answer, but has some interesting reading.
Thamk you, very interesting.I went into services as you suggest. Windows event log is enabled, performance logs was not started, so I have started it. I cant find alert services.Your book as you say is interesting. i thought it a bit over my head at first, but I am getting there. we shall see if performnce logs enablement makes any difference cheers. I have just noticed that performance logs and alert services are one item
