for anyone who likes to try different linux distros i've been using Ultimate Edition 2.3 this comes with practically everything installed (including lots of eye candy) and not a lot of terminal commands to get things running. im using it on a fairly high powered computer, so im not sure how it will run on anything else. ive found most linux os builds to look almost identical only with a different wallpaper. most seem to be built for low powered computers or run live. ultimate edition, based off ubuntu, makes a great desktop os.

linux distro
(3 posts)LOL The screenshot of Ultimate edition looks just like Ubuntu but with a different wallpaper :)
anyways just to give people a bit of a push to try Linux ( you never know ......you might like it) If you have a spare flash drive knocking around you can always make it bootable with a distro of your choice to save you burning endless ISO's to disk
Have a look at pendrivelinux for some great tutorials
after actually installing Ultimate Edition (as opposed to looking at the pictures) ive found it has practically everything ready. a few need to be given permission to install but the packages are already set up. it's a feature rich distro with very little if any terminal set up. one thing that should have come with it is conky, but google sidebar is preinstalled.
to give people a better understanding, please explain why a $10 flash drive would be preferred over a 30 cent cd? although i have linux on a flash drive, my only purpose is to retrieve files from a non functioning computer. and i do beat geek squads price every time :)
