I have a 6200 series Avertec Laptop . When I turn it on, the screen Lights up,I can hear the Harddrive, but nothing happens. with the computer on, if I place a cd or dvd in in the dvd-rom, I can hear it working. I have tried to enter the BIOS, but no luck. The laptop dvd playback feature(allows the laptop to play a movie without having to turn on the laptop), works excellently. So I know there is nothing wrong with screen.

Will it boot into safe mode.

Try doing a system restore from safe mode

Start into SAFE MODE

1/As your computer starts but before Windows launches, press F8 repeatedly.
2/Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
3/If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
Note: If Windows launches before you can choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again
PS/ Sometimes it maybe the F5 key

Maybe you accidently switched the screen off. On some systems it is a combination of the Fn key and a function key. Maybe you have a booklet that came with the PC where that is explained.
