HAve an Acer 5253 laptop, about 15 months old, Everything works fine except the keyboard. It worked fine... Unit went into hibernation and when it came out by opening lid now keyboard will not respond. Touchpad and buttons work fine.
Cannot get into BIOS.
Removed keyboard and re-seated cable.
Still not working.
Opened device manager, keyboard is there and it says it is working properly.
Uninstalled keyboard and restarted system.
Keyboard recognized and driver reinstalled.
Still not working
Cap/NUM do not toggle lights.

Keyboard bad? Why is it still recognized?
Is there ANYTHING else it could be other than a bad keyboard?

I if you can run with either a USB Keyboard or the Ease of access on screen keyboard without problem then I would believe the keyboard itself is bad.

Turned out it was in fact a bad keyboard..18 bucks from amazon, took literally 2 minutes to remove and install the keyboard.
This model the keyboard is simply pulled out of the"tabs" that hold it and snapped back in after you connect the ribbon cable.
