Well i work in a school with around 30 printers easily.

most of the scripts for these printers work ok.
there seems to be a problem though when people in the D&T department want to print to the printer that is right by the machines.

this printer was installed before i started here and they have constant trouble with it apprently only one computer can successfully print to that printer i'm guessing that was the computer that was used for the installation of the printer and maybey where the print script was imaged from and put onto all of the other computers in the department from the ict managers office.

i pose this question.

pretty much everyone can pickup the printer ( not phisically ...)
on the network so it can't be installed incorrectly but when a document is printed anywhere else besides the closest computer to the printer it spools as usual then the printing process stops no error message no crash nothing it's staus dissapears and the page count sets to N/A.

i would appreciate some help my manager is off with dental problems and i'm a one man show thanks luke.

First, some questions on the configuration.
What Operating System do the computers use?
Are any of the computers join to a domain?
If so what is the Operating System of the Domain Controller?
What is the model of printer?

The printer model i do belive is a hp3500 ( the bulky ones )

OS: XP SP2

The Computers Are Joined To The Schools LAN
The Server OS Is WSE 2002 I Belive.

and sorry i forgot to mention this before my manager mentioned he had problems like this before he thought it was the scripts/group policy.

but luckily for him the problem fixed itself.

and another quck note JD2066 for LAN security ( due to us being a school ) we run ranger maybey that has some issues too.

thanks

I would guess for the server OS you mean Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition as there isn't a 2002 server OS version.
Just to clarify I'm reading your post right, you are saying that:
You have one computer that can't printer to a printer plugged in via USB or parallel port.
You have one computer that can over the network print though that computer to it's connected printer.
None of the other computers can print to that printer at all.

If the above is the case then that is one of the strangest printing problems I've heard of.

Is the printer connected via USb to the workstation or is it connected directly to the Network(via Ethernet or print server)?

it's connected via ethernet to a switch which in turn sends the data to the main server room.

Ok. Try checking some settings on the computer that works and on one that doesn't.
Here is how and what:
Open the printers folder in Control Panel.
Right click on the printer and click properties.
Click the ports tab.
Look at what port is checked and make sure it's the same on both.
Now click the Advanced tab and check what is listed by driver and make sure it's the same on both.

Yep It's all correct.
the driver recognises what printer it is and the port has the correct data showing.

it's becoming a mystery this someone get scooby doo

I have always used the method of installing the printers on the server and then sharing from there. That way the queue is on one PC. Is this how the printer is setup? If not I would assume that it is setup on a static IP and everyone connects individually to it. also what is the port that is listed?

not to worry guys i've managed seems that the printer was getting confused with the computer names apprenlty there were other departments with similar names and the printer was printing from those computers not the desired ones.

print script was at fault it was edited and now everything works fine.

no more hassle with this..... i hope ¬_¬
