What's so special about the "party" part?

a lan party is when gamers get together and hook all of the computers together in one location and have a gaming party persay. they do this because a lan connection is faster than their internet connection which means no lag and higher frag rates :)

jack, thank you for the explanation. But I still fail to see what needs to be done different to connecting any old bunch of systems. They use a router or a switch (depending on number of participants and space in the location). Right?

i think that you would have to have some type of server setup though then all of the others should get their ip through the router or the switch i could be wrong though

thats how i have it setup at my house but i have to have it that way to share the internet connection so i wouldn't know how you would have to do it if you just wanted all of the other pc's just to see each other
