Kim Dotcom's new Mega cloud storage is now available to the public. I've been following the announcements recently. 50Mb of encrypted storage for free seems pretty cool for using to store my not often used files, while using Dropbox for the files I may need to sync/backup and access more frequently.

I wondered what other HTG members thought, and if there were any compelling positive or negative thoughts or info by anyone here.

The new service comes a year to the day from when authorities raided Dotcom’s New Zealand mansion and shut down his previous site, Megaupload. That site was notorious as a haven for pirated materials, but Dotcom maintained his innocence and charges against him were dropped.

Must have a heavy load or insufficient resources to satisfy demand?

'Must have a heavy load or insufficient resources to satisfy demand?'

From the beeb;

Hours after the site was launched, Mr Dotcom tweeted that it had received 250,000 user registrations, although limited server capacity meant Mega was unreachable to many.

I can't tell you how many windows machines I have had to fix from people using sites such as piratebay, megaupload or the like. I had one machine that had so much malware that I stopped the scan after 250 instances of malware. I would steer clear of those type sites. Do you really think those people who provide pirated material really care so much about you that they want to give you something of value for nothing? A great deal of that stuff has malware. The saying "you only get what you pay for" applies so strongly here.
