I'm running Office 2003.
I have the option to upgrade to 2007.

Are there any real advantages to 2007?

Thanks.

The Office 2007 user interface is different and very, very slick. I have worked with both 2003 and 2007 - there is a world of difference to the advantage of 2007. It is a lot easier to use and has a lot more function too. I would recommend an upgrade - but uninstall 2003 first (with the Revo uninstaller - last option). Theoretically you can have them both on the system, but I have seen a lot of people having trouble with that scenario.

fyi,i just read on cnn.com that microsoft is releasing a free version of office sometime in 2010. it will be watered down i'm sure and most likely bugging you to upgrade to the paid verison. just thought i would pass this along.

Some major differences between the two packages that should be considered:

* Office 2007 is XML based and as such the file extensions now are four characters long, i.e. xlsx, docx, etc. These new extension/formats include new features that are not compatible with older versions of Office. There is a compatibility add on that Microsoft released that allows you to open the new extensions but you there will still be compatibility issues.

* The new features in Word and Excel are massive improvements. Live Preview allows you to preview any formatting changes before applying. Additional Excel functions make life a lot easier for regular Excel users.

* The new Ribbon interface that replaces the old menu system is not to everyone's liking, mainly those who are resistant to change...

Office 2007 is a lot better. It runs a lot faster and the user interface is a lot clearer.

I would use 2007 over 2003 any day :)

Everything's so much more effectively laid out
I find 2003 rather like grinding nails down a blackboard in comparison!

It took me forever to finally enjoy 2007. I kept getting frustrated and didn't like it.

That is until I finally played with the thing and figured a lot of it out. The layout is just different and getting used to the various tabs takes a little practice- but it's well worth it.

For instance, in Office 2007, referencing and works cited is actually an amazingly easy process now. You have a master source list, add relevant sources to your paper, cite as you go, and BAM your research paper is looking good.

I really like office 2007, I just wish I had gotten used to it and enjoyed it sooner.

Skyholder, hi. I'm running Office Pro 2003. I tried 2007 but didn't care to learn the new stuff it featured. Was confusing to me. Went back to 2003. After reading these replies, I'm going to give 2007 a real try this time. I am comfortable with familiar things and that's why I didn't give it an honest shot. Thanks for posting your question and thanks to all the replies...Garry

Garry, baldeguy,
take some time to play around with the settings (click the msoft office button in the top left corner). I learned most things from just messing around with various things.
