Very rarely do I need Powerpoint or M/S Word to open certain e-mail attachments, a buddy of mine is bummed out because I'm unable to open a recent attachment. I've used both in the past on a trial basis, and found they were ok, but I can't see paying for a program that I seldom use. Anyone know of any freebies?

What is the file type?
And Powerpoint Viewer is free.

I think you mean PowerPoint Viewer is free. PowerPoint is not free.

Thats what I linked to. It's all you need to open a .pps attachment.

Indeed, the link is correct. It's the "And Powerpoint is free." you wrote that is incorrect.

You can get stand-alone viewers for all Office products free from Microsoft:

Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.

not sure if this would make any difference, but if it's just powerpoint, you can ask the sender to save the file as .pps, when you open the file you'll see the actual presentation.

@pipo: No, not really any difference in this case. You would still need PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer to open a .pps file.

Good point jack. My friends machine absolutely refuses to run PPV. I had to install OO for him. Never could figure out why?

If one distributes a Word 2007 file to the "general public", it is convenient to store them in PDF format (which is an add-on to Word 2007 http://office.microsoft.com/en.....21033.aspx ). I also use this option to send photos over the internet because it reduces the byte count significantly (factor 10 to 50 is possible depending on original filetype and packaging). I don't think this option exists for PPx files though.
PS: Office 2007 Home and Student is on sale this week For $100 at BestBuy (regular price $149)

I must be getting Alzheimers,I forgot that I had PowerPoint Viewer on my XP machine. I then forwarded the mail to the XP machine and was able to view everything. Thank you everyone for the info anyway.
