I have a laptop with Vista. My programs fight with it in a dual everyday. I've heard that if I can get it completely formatted with the D.O.D. erase program, that I could install a fresh XP O.S. on it. Is it possible for an ordinary citizen to get one of these format disks. Thanks, Bob

bobnoell,
If you have a Floppy Drive, it is very possible to get close to the (OLD) DOD Standard for wiping a hard drive.
I think what you are really asking is how to Zero Out a Hard Drive and then put a normal FAT32 or NTFS Format on the Hard Drive.
Wiping a Hard Drive by today's DOD Standards requires using Degaussing Equipment which I don't believe you have or need unless you are working in the infamous world of "Black Ops".

bobnoell,
I use old Ghost 2003 on a floppy to Wipe, Partition and Format HDs in preparation for applying a new O/S.
There are Thousands of other programs out there that will do the same thing.

Bobnoell, you don't need to wipe the disk in order to reinstall the operating system. However, if you must, you can use a bootable DBAN disc:
