Ipod is NOT recognized on itunes or computer? PLEASE HELP!!!!

ok so i have a old ipod click wheel and now its not being recognized on my computer or itunes and it shows the sad ipod icon on the screen

i just uninstalled itunes and installed the newest version of it and still nothing shows up

i put it into disk mode and nothing happened the ipod only charges when i connect it to my laptop

i have a windows vista btw

please help asap ='(

have you tried updating / restoring the software

i should mention that ive never owned an ipod and that im kinda wing'n it here.
have you tried connecting it to another computer to see if the results are the same?
if it is recognized on another computer - take that time to update / restore the software / firmware AND THEN bring it back to your comp. with the newest version of itunes.
