A friend handed me an ipod that has a screen that stays black. I plugged it in to my computer (usb) and nothing. If the little switch near the power port is toggled which way is on? Showing the red or covering the red? Neither helps any way. He thought the usb cord was good, because he used it elsewhere. No music, no sound. Can it be fixed?

It does not show up on the computer either.
