Hi,

I have an IP address conflict with another computer on my home network. We use linksys and apparently all of our IP address are the same right now.

I followed something that I found through Google :
"Try to release and renew your IP Address (if using Windows, "ipconfig /release" followed by "ipconfig /renew"). If you get a different one, chances are the different one won't be in conflict."

But it did nothing.

What can I do?

THANKS!!

You might try using the software that came with your Linksys,I had a similiar problem with my D-Link router awhile back.I reformatted my xp machine and that's when the problems began, all is well now.Unplug your modem for a minute,if it's cable, and you might want to reset the router, good luck.

We received a warning but we are not noticing any problems... What happens if this message is ignored?

Thanks for responding!

I am no longer receiving a warning when booting up any one of the 3 computers but they still have the same IP address. Is it possible that this is normal for windows xp, comcast, linksys combo?

janst,

There should be One ISP address and the Router/Modem Combo should furnish a DCHP address to each individual machine on your home network.

I haven't used Cable in several years so please provide the Model Number(s) of your Linksys equipment.

Rick P.

Hi Rick,

I have an EtherfastCable/DSL Router Model BEFSR41 with a 10/100 8-port WorkGroup Switch model EZXS88W. There are 5 computers connected but 2 of them are rarely used and usually off.

thanks

janst,

I think BOTH the Router and Switch have UPlink Ports (Cross Connection Ports) shared with an associated LAN Port.

Only the UPlink OR associated LAN port can be used but NOT both at the same time.

Router LAN Port (4) shares with Router UPlink Port.
Switch LAN Port (8) shares with Switch UPlink Port.

Connect Switch UPlink Port to any Router LAN Port BUT NOT to Router UPlink Port.
Use only Switch LAN Ports (1-7) and Switch Ports (1-4).
OR
Connect Router UPlink Port to any Switch LAN Port BUT NOT to Switch UPlink Port.
Use only Router LAN Ports (1-3) and Switch LAN Ports (1-8).

Believe I have the connections correct from memory but don't have manuals and memory is failing.

Please check your documentation for verification.

Also if you are using a Cross Connection Cable, please post back.

Regards,
Rick P.
