I tested it again, and it was essentially the same:

My modem, a Conexant 56K AClink, is V.92 . . . if that makes any difference from V.90 (which I doubt . . . there wouldn't be such a drastic increase in upload speed between the two I don't think). In any case, the upload speed seems to be anomalous for a dial up, which is why I tested it again. So, I guess I'll just have to live with it <grin>.

I HAVE noticed that when uploading images to photobucket it seems to be pretty fast (for a dial up, that is).

Let's not forget, there is also a time of day effect. I have seen download speeds ranging from under 100 to over 700Kbps depending on the time (and also the server). Best time seems to be after midnight EST - then most of the US went to sleep - and most of Europe is still asleep.

Yes, I do surf mostly after midnight (my time, Pacific) . . . for the very reason that you stated. Off peak times are friendliest to my weak dial up.
