Well this isnt really a problem but I think it is =).

My connection speed is supposed to be 100Mbps, at least thats what it says under Local Area Connection under Network Connections. However, when I download something it only goes at 90kbps. Can someone explain why it does this and if its something wrong with the internet connection.

ISP is CenturyTel and my internet is DSL.

Jesse, 100 Mbps is the speed of the connection between your PC and the DSL modem. The speed you get to and from the Internet is determined by the plan that you have with CenturyTel. The speed that you get when downloading depends on how fast the server your are downloading from is willing to send data, how far the data has to travel, and how fast your PC can save the data off and ask for more. To get a sense of the speed you are actually getting from the net, try the speed tests below.

755 Download kbps 250 Upload kbps

But when I download something I only got 90 kbps... Doesn't make sense.

Jesse, check the units -- it probably does make sense. The speed tests return values in kpbs (kiloBITS per second), but most downloads are measured in KB/s (kiloBYTES per second). There are 8 bits in a byte plus add 1 stop bit for transmission, so divide by 9 for a rough translation. 755 kbps comes out to 84 KB/s (755 รท 9). So 90 KB/s is very close to 84 and that makes perfect sense.

The next question would be: are you getting what you paid for? What tier of service are you getting from CenturyTel? Based on the test results, it looks like 768 kbps downstream and 256 kbps upstream (sometimes written 768/256). If that's what you are paying for, you are getting it. However, if you are paying for up to 1.5 Mpbs, it's a little slow. Beware of the "up to" clause, but if you are not getting close to what you paid for give them a call and ask if they can fix it.

My broad band connection is very slow. Even i checked my internet speed from http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/ & i received the download speed as 1565 upload speed as 523 then i used this procedure to increase the speed. Follow these steps to increase the speed:
1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc
2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch
3. Expand the Network tab
4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box
6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %
But still i receive the same problem. Can any body help me to increase the speed?
