Internet connection dropping regularly

Hello,

I've been having an issue with my internet connection over the last few weeks and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me solve the problem.

Basically, I'll try to go to a website and get a "server not found" error. The weird thing is that when I click reload, the browser won't even try to reload, it just immediately gives me the "server not found" error again.

I have been able to get the connection back by using winsockfix.exe and rebooting, but the connection seems to drop the next day or couple of days. Anybody have any ideas on what I could try to fix this permanently?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Chris,

First of all what kind of connection do you have? do you have a cable modem or dsl? if it's the latter it would depend how far you would be from the central office. More information is needed.

povictory, hi and welcome.

There are a few things you could try.
1) Unplug your router for at least 3 mins, reconnect
2) In the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns
3) In the run box type %temp% and delete the files found
4) Clear all your cookies/history from your browser

people correct me if i am wrong but could it be anything to do with the MTU, though i would expect more a reboot of router to fix this....???
