Hi i'm trying to connect a family members laptop onto the internet.

i'm getting ' page cannot be displayed '
i'm currently connected to the same connection on this pc and it's working fine thus it's the laptop.
the only thing i can say out of the ordinary is i get a framework error message and a LOT or coding in this error box.
apprently an input line is wrong, something like that.

i've tried multiple browsers and the programs such as itunes and ares ( i was unaware of this ) , can use the connection fine itunes can access the store and msn can sign in.

if anyone has any suggestions it would be a great help.

thank you

Luke

Just a guess...
In IE, go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings>check Automatically Detect Settings
Apply
OK.

Is this an HP laptop and are you trying to connect with the WiFi?

no it's an advent. an advent k100 to exact the connection is fine.

and i have already checked that box scott. but thanks anyway.

and the input line error i get is.

"data input string is in a incorrect format"

i think somehow the framework has been corrupted.
so i have tried varied versions of framework from windows.net and to no avail i'm just thinking about starting
full destruct recovery.

opinons would be very helpful as i really dont want to take hours moving data about.

Luke, if the system can access iTunes and MSN, it is connected to the Internet. Also, you said you tried multiple browsers -- is IE the only one giving you trouble? When you talk about framework errors, do you mean from the .NET framework? What versions of .NET are installed, including updates?

I don't believe that .NET is a requirement to run IE. You could try uninstalling all versions and updates.
