INstalling winxp to laptop

Hi
I dont have the recovery disc for my HP pavillion DV8000, i have a winxp disc but it when i run xp setup it tells me it cant find the hard drive and set up stops.
Of course the hard drive is in there but i cant move any further
Can someone suggest a way i can reinstall winxp?

You probably need to burn a Windows XP disc with SATA drivers included. See http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....tallation/ for how to do so.

I assume your HP came with Vista. Before you do anything else, you should burn a Vista recovery disk from the recovery partition - just in case something happens and you need to reinstall Vista. If you need help with that, come back and ask.
The installation of XP on a Vista machine is a somewhat more involved procedure. I have to defer to my friends for an answer because I am not an expert in that.
You may want to specify whether you want to install XP only or XP next to Vista.
