Hi ishanigoel, welcome to HTG. You won´t have any problems with installing ubuntu on your pre-installed Vista laptop. Have a look here and have a read through. Matt

Might I suggest using Wubi instead. It allows you to try out Ubuntu without partitioning.

If you decide you like it and want to dual boot, then use the tutorial that Matt posted.

In addition to the link that madmacs provided, get the Ubuntu Pocket Guide here.

Though it's not VISTA specific (which the link that madmacs provides is), it has a dedicated section on installation. I highly recommend you read this as a complement to the madmacs link.

I'm a firm believer in thorough preparation. Used to rush into things because I was anxious to try something. That attitude got me into trouble a number of times. Now I take my time and prepare as much as I can before I start "clicking". I read everything I can get my hands on BEFORE I start.
