I'm going to post reply to the topic Install Vista In-Place here in new one as that topic was closed:
@jraparrish: It sounds like you are talking about the Repair install feature of Windows XP.
I did a quick search on Google for those keywords and found a page listing how to do the same for Windows Vista at http://www.vistax64.com/tutori.....vista.html
