How would I know that on which IDE channels are my optical drives attached & is it wise to select Pio mode only?

Thanks.

If everything is working properly leave all settings at default.

Optical drives always operate in PIO mode any way.

Thanks Rick but at times I do get I/O errors. In Device manager > Transfer Mode > default is > DMA if available?

On which channel is the hdd & on which the optical ones?

Typically, the main disk is on the Primary channel and the optical drives on the secondary channel. In your case it looks like one of the optical drives is on the primary channel.

I'm GUESSING??? it will be on the Secondary IDE Channel especially if you have (2) hard Drives.

Hards Drives should always be DMA and Optical should be PIO.

HOWEVER, Xhi is probably correct because of picture you posted.

No, only drives actually plugged into the primary and secondary IDE ports on the motherboard are on those channels.
