Sophos Free Antivirus quarantined my OS , now i cant boot even to safe mode.
please help

Why on earth did you install Sophos on an iBook? Too afraid of viruses?! (LOL, JK!)
Anyway, I think you can use a recovery CD/DVD now. If it came with one (or if one came with it)
If not, well, reinstalling the OS might be the choice. Did you have any data on it?

i don't have any data on it. i can format. i don't have a CD. how can i get the right CD for this computer? i don't know what kind of Mac OS will work with this computer.

As far as I know, the latest OS the iBook G4 can run is Mac OS X Leopard. You can find a DVD on Amazon or ebay, for example:

You can also take it to an Apple store, but dunno if they'll provide you with any support for it, since it's an old laptop, you know :)

i got the original CD's on eBay.
now i need to re-install the Mac OS
the computer is not booting from the CD, what i'm i doing wrong?

did it but got the blocked sign so OS wont install.
i tried to take out ram and reset the memory, still didn't help..

Perhaps I was wrong, here's the real way to do it:
"To start the installation process, insert the disc in the drive, reboot the iBook, and hold down the C key once you hear the bootup chime. Hold it down until you see the little scroll gear at the bottom of the gray Apple screen. If you meet the requirements, it should boot up from the disc and welcome you to the installation."

that didnt work. holding the C wont work.
if i hold the ALT then i get the boot option and like i said; got the blocked sign so OS wont install

The Only thing would be to take out the iBooks Hard drive and format it using a different Computer.

You would use this to connect the drive.

Then you would re install mac.

(I would only do this as a last resort)
