I have read and heard so much about the transition to an SSD that I "took the plunge". I purchased a intel 335 240GB SATA 3 Hard Drive. My motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R, which apparently is a SATA 2 board. I am told that the motherboard will not allow the SSD to be as fast as with a SATA 3 board, but it will boot much faster that with the present conventional hard drive. I do not have the funds at present to upgrade the motherboard. I kinow that there are many people here that are much more knowledgable than I, so I ask.....will my computer be faster ???????

Your computer will definitely be much faster than with the HDD. Go ahead and dive right in.

Sata3 or Sata2 will make little difference for the OS. The difference is in data transfer speeds and that is unimportant for OS operations. It is the access speed that gives you the stunning performance - and that is the same in 2 and 3.
