I am suffering from the above, in a nutshell :(

Internet/comms used to work, then stopped about 18 months ago.

I have restored the laptop back to factory settings

I have windows XP home edition.

As per a couple of blogs I ran the ipconfig renew and release thingy. then the ipconfig all to txt file.
copy and paste as follows :

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : acer-61a4596bd3

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown

I have since 'backed out' to the last driver for the realtek BUT it now, cannot see ANY wireless networks :( have i taken it too far :(

HELP! This is my toddlers laptop and she misses Cbeebies and has been nagging for over a year!

Please assume that I am clueless (let's face it, compared to you guys, I am :)

Cheers much

Here is the problem :

--------------------------------
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.80.0

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
--------------------------------

169.254.xxx.xxx is what Windows gives as an IP Address when it can't locate anything giving it one.

Basic problem is you have NOT set a GATEWAY, if a router, possibly 192.168.x.x. A modem, it isn't giving out one (no DHCP set in it).

A link to help you.
